HOW DO I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE SURGERY?

To see a doctor today

The best way to see a doctor at the surgery at short notice, seek advice or to ask for a home visit is to telephone Bentham surgery on 61202.

The doctor on-call will phone you back as soon as possible. We aim to reply to calls within an hour. In an emergency the receptionist will arrange for a doctor to talk to you immediately. There is a doctor available at the surgery from 8am to 6:30pm. We may be able to deal with your problem over the phone but usually we will arrange an appointment with a doctor or nurse, or a home visit.

Non-urgent appointments

You can make a non-urgent routine appointment by speaking to a receptionist or over the internet by using MyPractice Online. If you only want to talk to your doctor on the phone, you can arrange a telephone appointment.

Most appointments are for 10-15 minutes. More time may be needed if you have several problems to discuss or need a complex examination such as an ecg or a cervical smear. If you are not sure how long you need, please discuss it with our receptionist. Please do not use MyPractice Online to book long appointments.

If more than one member of the family wants to see the doctor or the nurse, please make a separate appointment for each person.

SMS text reminders for appointments

If we have your mobile number, we can automatically sends you a text message to remind youabout your appointment 48 hours in advance. You can also use the system to send a free text back saying 'cancel' to cancel the appointment.   The message will remind you not to attend at the surgery if you have made a telephone appointment.

Transport to your appointment.

If you need transport to the surgery for your appointment, we can arrange a lift for you with Bentham Community Transport. This is funded by the practice charity, the Bentham Extra Care Fund, but if you can make a donation towards the cost of the journey, it helps the funds last longer.

What should I do if I want to cancel my appointment?

If you cannot keep your appointment, please let us know as soon as you can.  Unused appointments mean that others have to wait longer for an appointment. You can cancel appointments through MyPractice Online or by sending us a free text message.

Will telephone advice save me making an appointment?

You may be able to avoid waiting for an appointment by seeking advice from your doctor or nurse over the telephone. This may be the best way to discuss the results of blood tests or x-rays. Call Bentham Surgery, tell the receptionist what your call is about and your doctor or your nurse will call you back soon as they can. You can make a appointment to talk to your doctor on the telephone at an agreed time. If you need an answer the same day and your usual doctor or nurse is not available, someone will be available to speak to you on the day you call.
