WHAT IS MyPractice Online?

MyPractice Online is a secure, confidential internet service called EMIS Access that allows you to book or cancel appointments, request repeat prescriptions, notify us if you change your address or see a summary of your medical record. It saves you time and allows you access in the evenings or at the weekend when the surgery is closed.

To protect your privacy, we will give you a password to visit the secure EMIS Access website. You can also buy a special device that gives you added protection, similar to those used for banking online. EMIS Ltd is the company that supplies our practice computer system.

How do I register to use the service?

To begin, you must register in person at Bentham or Ingleton. We need proof of identity to be sure that we only grant access to the person with right of access to the record. The receptionist will give you all the details you need to create your account and set up a password to use first time. You can change it later so that nobody, including the practice staff, can access your information without your permission.

Further protection for your confidentiality is that we will not let one person sign up on another person’s behalf. We also restrict access to people over the age of 16.

Once you have registered at the practice, the next step is to go online and register on the EMIS Access website. You will need the registration document that you recieved when you registerd at the surgery.

Some things not to do with the online appointment service

Do not use MyPractice Online to contact the practice in an emergency or to book home visits or urgent appointments. Please telephone the surgery and a receptionist will arrange for the doctor on-call to call you back. In an emergency the doctor will call you back straight away.

Please do not book appoinments for medicals online either. They usually need more than one appointment slot. Call reception to make an appointment that is long enough for the type of medical examination that that you need.

It is possible to cancel appointments online, but please do not cancel Diabetes clinic appointments this way. We rely on the clinic appointment lists to send out invitations so if you cancel an appointment this way, you may not get another invitation automatically. If you want to cancel or change a Diabetes clinic appointment telephone Bentham surgery and discuss it with a receptionist.

Medical Records Viewer

A special extension of the EMIS Access system allows you to see a summary of your health record held by the practice. You can find out more about it by downloading our leaflet about it here.

The leaflet includes a copy of the consent form that we ask you to complete bfore we can switch on access to your medical record.

The Royal College of General Practitioners have produced guides to using online access to GP records for patients and doctors.
