PRACTICE SERVICES We offer specific clinics and services to help you protect your health and the health of your family. We aim to help you prevent illness or, if you are ill, to minimise the effect of the illness on your life. To achieve this we offer a variety of health checks which are outlined here. If you would like to know more about any of our services please ask a receptionist or your doctor or nurse.
Appointments and visits When and where the doctors and nurses are available for appointments. How to book an appointment or ask for a home visit. What to do in a medical emergency or if you need medical help when the surgery is closed. Sometimes a telephone call to your doctor or nurse may be all that is needed. You can book an appointment for a telephone consultation with your docctor. We aim to reply to all telephone calls on the same day whenever possible. You can book a routine appointment with your doctor on line at MyPractice Online.
We offer a comprehensive repeat prescription service which includes devlivery of medicines that we dispense to most villages including Low Bentham, Wray, Hornby, Burton-in-Lonsdale, Newby, Clapham and Austwick. You can order repeat precriptions online via MyPractice Online.
Because we are a rural practice we are able to dispense medications to some of our patients in the same way as a chemist. NHS regulations prevent us from dispensing to patients who live within a mile of a chemist shop. This affects people who live in High Bentham, Ingleton and Westhouse. If you live elsewhere you can register with the practice as a dispensing patient and collect your prescriptions from the practice. Our dispensary at Bentham is fully stocked and is open for the same hours as the surgery. We dispense a few items at Ingleton, mainly painkillers and antibiotics when you have an appointment with a doctor. Medical Services
We offer specific clinics and services to help you protect your health and the health of your family. We aim to help you prevent illness or, if you are ill, to minimise the effect of the illness on your life. To achieve this we offer a variety of health checks. We run a series of jointly-held doctor and nurse clinics to manage many important long-term conditions: coronary artery disease, hypertension, heart failure, strokes and diabetes mellitus. We also run asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and child health clinics. The practice nurses take the lead in the management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and deal with most of the minor injuries. Phlebotomy services are provided by receptionists specially trained to take blood and deal with urine samples.
Medical reports and examinations The practice offers a number of service outside of our work for the NHS, usually medical examinations or reports, or private illness certificates. Because this work is outside the NHS, we charge a fee in line with that recommended by the British Medical Association (BMA). The current fees are on display at Bentham and Ingleton surgery. |
