LOCAL VOLUNTARY AGENCIES

There are several voluntary agencies in the Craven and Lancaster areas that can offer considerable support if you have health problems. Some of them are listed here. Click the links to find out more about them.

Alzheimer's Society

Worried about your memory? The Alzheimer's Society website contains a very useful resource for anyoone who is worried about their memory or about someone close whose memory appears to be failing: http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/memoryworry.

 

Carer’s Resource

A carer is someone who supports a relative or friend who because of disability, illness or old age cannot manage at home without them. The Carers’ Resource provides information, advice and support to carers and all who work with them. The Carer Support Worker attached to this practice is Sue Clements.  She holds sessions at the surgery every Wednesday from 10.00am–12.00noon.  You do not need an appointment.

 

Citizen’s Advice Bureau

Craven Citizens Advice Bureau hold sessions at Bentham Surgery on alternate Wednesday afternoon from 1.30pm-3.00pm.  They offer advice on subjects including debt, employment, welfare benefits, consumer, housing, health, family and personal. You do not need an appointment to see an advisor, you can just call in. You can also telephone 02708 332181.

 

Craven Domestic Violence Service

The Craven Domestic Violence Service offers confidential information and support yo anyone whose lives are affected by dometic violence. Trained staff and volunteers provideemotional support, advice on housing, health, legal assistance and welfare rights. They can refer you and your children to refuges (places of safety) across the countryor make referrals for temporary emergency accommodation. They can help you get support from the police. They are based in Skipton but have a confidential helpline open Monday - Friday 10am-12noon and Monday evenings 7 - 9pm 0800 0858735

 

Looking Well

Looking Well is a warm, friendly and lively meeting place used by local people, visitors,artists and people working in health, social care and education. The centre celebrates the art of living offering opportunities to develop skills in the arts of cooking, gardening and marking significant life events as well as visual arts, theatre, music, dance and writing. It has a strong voice in local health services identifying and responding to local health needs and has achieved national recognition for its groundbreaking approach to community health.
